Putting OTs on the federal election agenda
We’re aiming to put occupational therapy on the federal election agenda.
We’re focused on securing funding commitments in four key areas of practice:
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Ageing in place
- A strong primary care system
- A responsive disability sector
In our 2022 Federal Election Playbook, we provide evidence of the vital work of occupational therapists across these core areas of practice. We also offer a range of helpful actions that will address need and improve access to services for Australian consumers.
Those proposed actions are based on member feedback to OTA. The actions seek to provide realistic and targeted suggestions that will better support the work of occupational therapists.
Responses to the playbook
We sent the playbook out to MPs and candidates on all sides of politics requesting a response to our pragmatic proposals.
Read the responses from:
- The Australian Labor Party (via Paul Erikson, National Secretary)
- The Coalition (via Andrew Hirst, Federal President Liberal Party)
- The Australian Greens (via WA Senator Jordon Steele-John)
- Rebekah Sharkie MP, Independent Member for Mayo in South Australia
