Policy and Advocacy Aged Care Update August
The Interim Inspector-General of Aged Care has released his report assessing the progress of the royal commission’s 148 recommendations. OTA facilitated a roundtable for the Office of the Inspector-General involving consumers and allied health clinicians to contribute to their consultation and assessment.
The IG identified six priorities for government, including addressing unintended consequences and perverse incentives. The report in particular identifies the impact on provision of allied health and has called for the Department of Health and Aged Care to initiate a review of the impact of the AN-ACC and the care minutes on the provision of allied health in residential care settings, and to consider whether other policies could offer an effective means of realising the Royal Commission’s intent.
