Join a Divisional Council

Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA) are pleased to advise that nominations are now open for members of OTA to join their local Divisional Council.

As part of the governance structure of OTA, each state and territory have a Divisional Council. The Divisional Councils have an advisory role as well as providing representation and supporting local activities. OTA is seeking passionate, engaged, strategic thinkers who want to enhance their career and make a positive difference in and to their profession.

Nominations will be open for the following divisions:

  • Australia Capital Territory
  • Queensland
  • Victoria
  • Western Australia
  • South Australia
  • Tasmania
  • Northern Territory

Why join a Divisional Council?

As a member of the Divisional Council, you will have the opportunity to raise and explore current issues; contribute your expertise and knowledge; expand your network; utilise and further develop your strategic thinking and advocacy skills, as you provide input into the direction of your profession and professional association at a local level.

Past Divisional Council members acknowledge that apart from contributing to the profession through being on the Council they have personally benefitted from the experience, feedback has included:

‘During my time on the divisional council I have met OTs from all over Australia; been able to develop skills in writing; been able to provide input into submissions and clinical guidelines that impact OT; extended my own network; added to my CV when I applied for promotion and met some OT gurus’

‘Being involved has helped me develop a much better understanding of the directions in which OT is expanding and changing and a clearer appreciation of how the national association is so active in lobbying for us’

The Councils are seeking OTA members who have:

  • a keen interest and knowledge of the Occupational Therapy profession;
  • a commitment to improving the practice of occupational therapy
  • the ability to provide input on a wide variety of matters affecting the profession, and to support OTA events and operations both at a local and national level
  • the ability to prepare for and actively engage in 4-6 meetings annually including the annual divisional meeting (meetings are held in virtual or hybrid format)
  • the capacity to commit to a 3-year volunteer appointment

Nominations Process:

Members who are interested in becoming part of a Divisional Council are encouraged to review the Occupational Therapy Australia Divisional Council Roles and Responsibilities as well as the Occupational Therapy Australia Constitution and By laws which guide the business and operations of OTA and the Divisional Councils.

Nominations including a short statement of intention and accompanying CV can be submitted via this online form from 23 January 2023 and by no later than 11:59pm, Sunday 5 February 2023.

Please contact us if you have any queries, mentioning your state/territory and preferred method of contact.
